1. The 60/40 Top-to-Bobbin Tension Rule
In balanced lockstitch machine embroidery, top thread accounts for roughly 60% of total thread consumption, while bobbin thread provides the remaining 40%. For every 1,000 meters of top thread consumed by your Brother or Tajima machine, plan on approximately 400 meters of fine 60wt bobbin thread.
2. Average Thread Length Per Stitch
